Poisonous Pathogen

It’s rare I dabble in the genre of poetry writing. I spent some of the summer of 2017 penning around 50 odd sonnets, but stopped when concluding the old school prose style I adopted when chronicling these verses was too self-indulgent for widespread appeal,

Under these COVID-19 times, though, this evening I felt moved to revisit this particular expression of literature. A judgement leading to creating a poem addressed to the coronavirus. I’m unsure of COVID-19’s reading abilities, but if it does understand this I hope it can let me in on the meaning as I’ve not got a f***ing clue what my prose relates to!! 😉 …… Only kidding folks…… Keep safe!

POISONOUS PATHOGEN

Indiscriminate cacodemon; pathogen bearing evil agenda

Patron saint of spite; malodorous virus

Your malevolence weighs heavy, though breaks us not

Despite thine prolonged claustrophobic consequence.

Odious demigod, taunting from behind barrier invisible

You may win many battles initiated, though ultimately not war

Our tribes, lion-hearted in spirit, not acquiescing without resistance

Despite current cure absence, ultimately prevailing agin rancid foe certain.

With posterior parked upon global chaise longues

Courtesy of position stealth, you gloat smugly

Remember though thine pathology not indestructible, like the scarlet captain

Thine agenda of carnage polar opposite to agent red.

Mutant virus, devoid of redeeming features

Will thy ever tire of the misery you bestow?

What manifests such vindictiveness?

Alma mater bullying and role model rancid, I’d conject.

Spiteful canker, bereft of positive existential worth

Bar perhaps fellows in tall black hats and stockholder pharmaceutical

Your loathed presence draining emotionally

Global resilience, though, nurtured by desire to prevail over thy festering agenda.
